Today marks 29 years since 1993 LIRR massacre
Today marks 29 years since the 1993 Long Island Rail Road massacre.
A total of six people were killed and 19 others were injured when Colin Ferguson opened fire on a train as it pulled into the Merillon Avenue station.
The shooting sparked calls for gun reform in New York and across the country.
It also led a nurse from Garden City, Carolyn McCarthy, to shift her career and become a congresswoman fighting for gun control after her husband was among those killed.
News 12 was joined by Joyce Gorycki, who lost her husband in that massacre 29 years ago today.
