A man is dead after getting trapped inside an elevator shaft.
Authorities say that emergency crews rushed to a high-rise building at 680 Tinton Ave. at around 4 a.m. where they discovered 20-year-old Tito Morales.
Morales was found between the 18th and 19th floors.
Police say Morales was "elevator surfing," or riding on top of an elevator at the time of the incident. After hopping on top of the elevator, Morales apparently slipped between the car and the wall of the elevator shaft, fatally trapping him.
Friends of Morales said he used to live in the Tinton Avenue building with his family. They said he was visiting with his girlfriend and friends who still live in the building.
The building is part of the Adams Houses. A NYCHA spokesperson is directing questions to the NYPD and FDNY during the death investigation.
