The Nassau County Police Department teamed up with Target on Wednesday to send children on a $200 shopping spree for the holidays.
The Heroes and Helpers event took place at Target in Westbury.
Target offered $100 to each child at the event, and the Nassau police matched that donation.
"You are making a difference in these children's lives, and it really does bridge the gap between the police and the communities we serve. They see us as regular people, and we are out here doing good, and it's just a really good feeling to help everybody," says Sharon Galvin, of the Nassau police.
About 40 children attended the event.
Officials say that along with buying toys, the children also used the money to buy gifts for their families.
