New York City will honor the Knicks this week with a ticker-tape parade in Manhattan following their first NBA Championship since 1973, after the team defeated the San Antonio Spurs in Game 5.

Mayor Zohran Mamdani announced the parade and subsequent City Hall ceremony is scheduled for Thursday.

The Knicks clinched the title Saturday night with a 94–90 victory over the Spurs. Point guard Jalen Brunson led the way, setting a Knicks record for most points in a finals game.

The parade is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. by Battery Park and head north along Broadway through Canyon of Heroes before ending at City Hall.

“For more than 50 years, New Yorkers have waited for this moment. Through near misses, heartbreak and a hope that every year could be our year, this city never stopped believing in the Knicks. And this team fulfilled that hope with grit, resilience and heart — just like the five boroughs itself,” Mamdani said. “New Yorkers have cheered for our team from packed living rooms in the Bronx to watch parties in Brooklyn, from bars in Queens to Staten Island to Manhattan, and Madison Square Garden itself. Now it’s time for our city to celebrate together. Bing bong.”

Mamdani also announced that City Hall and municipal buildings across the city will be lit in blue and orange on Thursday.

The city says this celebration will mark the first ticker-tape parade in Knicks history.
