Investigators are probing a fire that killed three people in a Brentwood home Friday.
Fire officials say the fire started around 1:30 a.m. at 135 Wicks Road. According to investigators, Maria Ventura, 31, and her 11-month-old son, Kevin, were trapped on the second floor. They say the homeowner, Ventura?s cousin, tried twice to save her and her son. Family members say when 40-year-old Matilde Agueta went to save Ventura and her son the second time, the ceiling collapsed, killing them.
Investigators say the home did not have any smoke detectors. Fire officials are still trying to determine the cause of the fire and say it doesn?t appear suspicious. Four other people in the home were able to escape.
