Three families from the Bronx are homeless Monday after a two-alarm fire ripped through their Washington Avenue apartment building.
Firefighters say the fire occurred just before 5 a.m. Sunday. Residents say they awoke to the smell of smoke coming through their apartment wall from a vacant building next door.
Four fire fighters were taken to Jacobi Medical Center with minor injuries. All of the building?s residents escaped unharmed. Fire officials are investigating the cause of the fire.
Meantime, the Red Cross will bring the families to Brooklyn where they'll be given temporary housing and food.
