Floral Park lawmakers have gathered thousands of signatures from residents who are against Long Island Rail Road?s proposed expansion.
Many residents who live along the Main Line Corridor say they are worried about losing their homes and property if a third track is built between the Floral Park and Hicksville stations.
Floral Park Mayor Phil Guarnieri and others presented the signatures to Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (D-Mineola), urging her to turn down the expansion proposal. McCarthy says she will not make a decision until she sees all of the information.
Residents potentially affected by the plan also say they want to see all the information. The LIRR has submitted a plan to the federal government. Once the government releases the plan, only then is it available to the public. The plan should be released in the next few months.
LIRR spokesman Joe Calderone says the public will get ample time to have a say concerning the plan. Some Floral Park homeowners, however, say they don?t trust that promise.
