Long Islanders and visitors were thrilled that the yearly Fourth of July fireworks celebration was back at Jones Beach after being canceled last year because of the pandemic.
Officials expected over 100,000 people to show up but have yet to tally final numbers.
Many beach goers showed up last minute, which forced closure of the parking lots at 9 p.m. ahead of the 9:30 p.m. show.
Revelers said they were glad to celebrate Independence Day this year since the pandemic cancelled the celebration last year and some said they saw it as a symbolic step forward toward normalcy.
