Thousands of runners laced up for the Suffolk County Marathon on Sunday.
The marathon, half-marathon and 5K races stepped off in Patchogue around 8 a.m.
About 2,500 people participated, including residents of 21 states and six different countries. The marathon serves as qualifier for the 2018 Boston Marathon.
A former Long Islander who used to live in West Sayville placed first in the men's race. Mark Maggi, 32, who now lives in Massachusetts, won with an unofficial time of 02:48:10.
New Hampshire resident Pam O'Sullivan finished first for the women.
Organizers say all of the money raised goes to helping veterans and expanding veteran services in Suffolk County.
Some major road closures were in effect during the marathon, including portions of Montauk Highway, Great River Road and a stretch of southbound Nicolls Road. All roadways reopened around 2 p.m.
