The Islanders' newest member took to the ice on Monday.
Thomas Vanek arrived on Long Island after a trade that sent Matt Moulson and two high draft picks to the Buffalo Sabres. Islanders GM Garth Snow says he was looking for an energetic scorer who would help breathe life into his young team.
"He's a player that's been dynamic at times," says Snow.
Vanek says he wasn't surprised by the trade since Buffalo is in the midst of a massive rebuild. "I didn't want to be a part of that," adds Vanek.
Vanek, an All-Star four years ago will make his Islanders debut Tuesday night against the Rangers at Nassau Coliseum.
