What does it take to become a "Water Wizard?”
Head on down to Hauppauge for a free tour of the Suffolk County Water Authority's Education Center and test your skills on how much you actually know about your water.
The tours are for all ages and are held on the third Thursday of each month at four different times. The afternoon tours include a visit to the SCWA laboratory and includes a question and answer session.
Visitors learn about where their water comes from, the layers of the aquifer, how the SCWA extracts that water from the aquifer and how it makes sure that it's safe to drink. The tour also shows how water is treated and how it is delivered to 1.2 million people, 24/7.
Hands-on activities for the kids include making mini aquifers or “rain clouds."
At the conclusion of the tour, a quiz is given to see who will go home with a "Water Wizard" trophy.
