Teenagers nominated for the TEENY Awards gathered at Suffolk Community College in Selden on Friday and showed off their skills.
The TEENY Awards celebrate teenagers for their work in theater. The ceremony is like the Tony Awards, but for high school students.
To score a nomination, high schools must decide if they are going to participate in the program. If they choose to, anonymous TEENY judges are sent into the schools to watch performances between September and April. The schools that receive high scores are nominated, and the schools with the highest scores are the winners.
Some of the high school nominees this year are Mount Sinai, Port Jefferson, Selden and Ward Melville. Teens from Mount Sinai say that they are excited for the awards, and that they are happy to be recognized for their work.
The TEENY Awards will take place at Suffolk Community College in Selden on June 15 at 3 p.m.
