Police say they are confident they will find the driver who hit a teen in Uniondale and then fled the scene.
Officials say the accident happened around 9:30 p.m. on Jerusalem Avenue. According to police, the 14-year-old was thrown 30 feet in the air after being hit by someone in a black sedan. The victim has been identified as a ninth-grader at Lutheran High School.
The boy suffered head injuries and contusions. He was taken to Nassau University Medical Center where he is listed in stable condition in the pediatric intensive care unit.
Det. Sgt. Anthony Repalone says between witness testimony and the damage the car would have sustained, police could catch the driver soon.
Police say the black sedan was driven by a black man and will likely have front-end damage. Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.
