A Farmingdale teen pleaded guilty Thursday to his role in a deadly street-racing crash.
Cory Gloe, 19, pleaded guilty to 17 counts, including five counts of manslaughter because five teens were killed in the 2014 crash near Route 110 and Conklin Street in Farmingdale.
After Gloe's plea, the judge said he would grant the teen youthful-offender status and sentence him to six months in jail, angering a relative of one of the five teens killed in the other car.
Prosecutors told the judge they are opposed to the "youthful offender status," which means Gloe will have no criminal record as an adult.
"It's totally ridiculous," said Mark McGlone, who is the uncle of one of the victims. "His fate has already been decided. We never even got to speak. I wonder if the people out there -- if this happened to their family or their child -- how would they feel."
Prosecutors have said Gloe challenged and encouraged Tristan Reichle to the street race. Tristan lost control of his vehicle, crashing into an oncoming SUV. He was killed along with the four passengers in his vehicle.
Gloe is scheduled to be sentenced May 20 by the same judge who presided over the hearing on Thursday.
In a statement, Nassau District Attorney Madeline Singas said, "I hope that today's guilty plea serves as a reminder to young people and their parents that driving a car is a serious and adult responsibility that has potential criminal consequences when racing or other recklessness is involved."
