Teen Grinches who tried to steal Christmas decorations in Holtsville face charges Sunday after their run-in with a homeowner.

Jeff Schaefering says he came outside about 2 a.m. Saturday after his daughter saw people trying to steal a snowman from his lawn. Schaefering and his neighbor tried to stop the car full of teens, but he says they accelerated toward the men. Although no one was hurt, police say Schaefering?s house was one of four within three blocks of each other the trio targeted that night. Schaefering says while the damage is costly, he still plans to put up more decorations.

Sachem High School East seniors Anthony Pitocco, Kyle Simpson and Zachary Dorsey are charged with criminal mischief. Pitocco, who was behind the wheel, also faces a reckless endangerment charge.
