A teenage driver was taken to the hospital after being struck in the eye with a BB or pellet gun in South Huntington.
According to police, 18-year-old William Schultheis, of Huntington Station, was at a stop sign on Engelke Avenue and Reynolds Street at around 9 p.m. Friday when someone fired a bullet. Schultheis heard a pinging sound and when he turned his head, he was hit in the eye. His brother, who was a passenger in the car, drove Schultheis to the hospital where he underwent surgery for a very serious injury to his eyeball. Police say neither the victim nor his brother got a look at the shooter.
Neighbors wonder if the triggerman was at nearby Koster Park, which is a popular nighttime hang out for young people in the summer. Police ask anyone with information about the shooting to contact Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS.
