One teenager is dead and another seriously injured after a one-car accident in North Hills Monday.
Police say the accident happened on Shelter Rock Road when 18-year-old Andrew Dong took a northbound curve too fast and struck a curb. According to investigators, the red 1999 Honda Accord spun into the southbound lanes before hitting a utility pole. Authorities say both Dong and 18-year-old Fidel Alincastre, Jr. were ejected upon impact as the car was torn in half. Dong was rushed to North Shore University Hospital and is listed in critical condition. Alincastre was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police are investigating whether a second car may have played a role in the accident and believe drag racing may have been involved.
Area residents say they have been complaining about speeders on the road for some time. Village Mayor Marvin Natiss says he has been trying to get an extra traffic light installed at the exact curve where the accident occurred.
