Kevin Carter, executive director of Teatown Lake Reservation, describes the area as a special place that instills a sense of sanctuary in those who visit. The reserve's diverse programs aim to inspire environmental stewardship among the participants.
For campers and visitors, the experience is both calming and educational. Nature's beauty is evident as one explores the Raptor Loop, providing a chance to encounter birds of prey up close.
"All of our animal ambassadors in Teatown that we use in our programs are non-releasable, so they suffered some kind of injury or have some sort of defect so they would not be able to survive in the wild and they become really powerful tools for education people," says Carter.
The wonders of Teatown extend to Cindy's Educational Sensory Garden, where all five senses are engaged, fostering a closer connection to the natural world.
"It's just a way again of connecting people to the natural world around them so that they feel more a part of it. I mean that's a really key element in making a good environmental steward in somebody that hopefully will love nature and make good choices throughout their life to protect nature," explains Carter.
Teatown Lake Reservation offers a year-round exploration of various elements, leaving visitors with a deeper appreciation for nature's wonders.
