A teacher?s assistant who works at a Merrick elementary school has been arrested for allegedly having child pornography on his computer.

Cops say 44-year-old Timothy Holt, who works with third-graders at Birch Elementary School, had video clips and pictures of child porn on his home computer in Baldwin. Police arrested Holt after they say they received a cyber tip from the Web site of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. Police say the tip indicated Holt made inappropriate comments on Internet chat rooms and also sent a sexually explicit picture of an underage child.

Parents say they were told of the arrest on Friday, but the automated phone message from the school did not give many details. A number of parents told News 12 Long Island that the school should have given them more information.

The school district says the background check on Holt came back clean. He has been suspended without pay and further disciplinary action could be taken when the school board meets in May.
