(10/27/06) SMITHTOWN - The possible target of a husband's alleged attempt to hire a hit man says she does not feel safe even though Gary Katz is now behind bars.

After nine years of marriage, Katz is accused of planning to end the relationship by hiring someone to murder Lisa Skowron. Her lawyer says a messy divorce, in which the mother of Katz's two children wanted half of her husband's assets, drove the suspect to hiring a hit man. Police say the assassin was actually an undercover cop. Katz, who Skowron's lawyer says has a history of abuse and death threats against his client, was later arrested. According to Skowron's attorney, the potential target will now seek all of her husband's assets to provide for their children.

The judge set Katz's bail at $1 million and, for now, he remains imprisoned.
