Four swastikas were found spray-painted on a building's parking garage in Cedarhurst Monday.
Police say the owner of the medical building, located on Maple Avenue, made the discovery.
Officials say the swastikas were painted on the pillars of the garage sometime between Friday afternoon and Monday morning.
In a similar incident in Cedarhurst, Carlos Rivera, of Lawrence, was arrested last week for allegedly drawing swastikas in front of two homes.
Cedarhurst Mayor Benjamin Weinstock says he is talking to Nassau's auxiliary police about stepping up patrols. He says even if it's a prank, it will not be tolerated.
Residents like Bension Rosenthal, whose grandparents are Holocaust survivors, say the symbol is hurtful.
"If it's a crime of opportunity, it doesn't make it any less painful to the people who have to suffer through it. If a hammer hits me on the head by accident or on purpose, it still hurts the same," he says.
Police are asking anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.
