Police say swastikas were found Monday at the Lawrence Long Island Rail Road station, and some community leaders are calling on the agency to install security cameras to catch culprits.
Harry Rozenberg says he found one of the symbols at a platform shelter and immediately called police. He says that within an hour, MTA and Nassau County police and MTA workers responded to the scene.
After canvassing the platform, a second swastika was discovered on another shelter. Both symbols were removed by Monday afternoon.
Back in January, a swastika was found at the Cedarhurst LIRR station. At the time, Assemblyman Todd Kaminsky called for security cameras to be installed there.
In the meantime, some community members say they will continue to patrol neighborhoods like Lawrence.
The MTA says that four LIRR stations have had cameras installed. The agency has not disclosed which ones have the cameras, but it does say that Lawrence is on the list of 55 stations to have cameras installed over the next five years.
