Police are investigating after a swastika was found etched into a tree at Veteran’s Park in East Northport.

The woman who found it did not want to show her face on camera but told News 12 she contacted Suffolk County police.

"It really bothers me to think about how many people passed it and knew it was there and didn't report it,” she said. "It hurts people and it's really upsetting to see."

The Holocaust Memorial and Tolerance Center says witnesses should always file a police report in cases like these.

Police arrived at the park to investigate and took photos of the area, according to the woman.

Officials have yet to release any other details.
