Nassau police say they caught an alleged bank robber who tried to make a getaway on an MTA bus Tuesday. Just before noon, police say Oscar Porillo, 48, of Rockaway, handed a note to a teller at a Levittown Bank of America commanding her to hand over money. Police say the robber got the money and then took off on the bus, which headed west on Hempstead Turnpike.
Authorities say they stopped all the public buses they could find. About 25 minutes later, they found the suspect based on witness descriptions and took him into custody.
Police say there were seven people inside the bank at the time of the robbery, but no one was hurt. Porillo was reportedly unarmed.
Police sources say Porillo was caught with about $4,600.
