A man allegedly attempted to run over arresting officers with his car at Jones Beach Friday.

Police said 46-year-old Hughley Williams, of Brooklyn, broke into at least five parked cars in a 10-day span. Williams allegedly stole cash, credit cards and other valuables from those cars parked at Field 6 of Jones Beach State Park.

Investigators said Williams, a career criminal previously arrested for identity theft, tried to avoid capture when State Park Police Department officers caught him breaking into a vehicle. Williams then allegedly attempted to hit the officers with his car.

Williams is being held at the State Park Police Barracks on charges of attempted assault of police officers and possession of burglary tools.
