Police are searching for the suspect who stabbed a man in the chest several times on Sunday night at a laundromat in New Cassel.
According to detectives, the male victim, 30, was involved in a verbal argument with another male at The Laundry Stadium II on Old Country Road.
Police say the argument escalated and the unknown male stabbed the victim multiple times in the chest area. The victim was transported to the hospital for treatment of his injuries. He is listed in stable condition.
On Wednesday, Laundry Stadium II was open and customers inside were surprised to hear about the violent incident.
Frankie Salas said he lives close by the storefront and doesn’t feel any less safe continuing his routine.
“Around this area, we are pretty safe. We've got the fire department down the road. Cops here often, coming to check if we are safe. I come at night as well. Noon, any time really," Salas said.
Neicae Joseph lives nearby in Westbury and is inside the laundromat most mornings waiting for her bus. She said the stabbing is making her feel uneasy.
“I think they should raise the level of security around here and I think people should be more mindful of their actions,” said Joseph.
Laundromat owners and customers hope detectives will make an arrest soon.
Detectives are asking anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.
