Police are searching for the man who roughed up and robbed an elderly couple in East Meadow.

The incident occurred at the Apple Lane home of Rita and Alan Barnett around 5:15 p.m. Monday.

Rita, 87, opened the back door in her kitchen and the man barged into the house, grabbed a large fork and threatened Rita with it. Alan, 91, heard the commotion from the living room, walked in and tried to hit the man with his cane.

Alan wound up getting knocked to the floor and was left with some bruises. Rita was also shoved and nearly knocked down.

The couple says the man was in his 20s and fled with cash, credit cards and jewelry.
