Police are studying surveillance video to find the person who shot a William Floyd High School student after a basketball game Friday night.
Meanwhile, both students and parents were apprehensive as kids returned to class Monday. Many are calling for increased security at the school including metal detectors. Parent Anthony Labate has even forbidden his son from attending any athletic events until security is beefed up.
Students say the fight was between rival factions of William Floyd High School and Riverhead's Mercy High School, who played each other that night. Sophomore Shadaya Shorter says many students knew that there would be trouble after the game if Riverhead lost.
Security was tight outside the school Monday while inside Superintendent Dr. Paul Casciano says he's weighing his options on how to best address the security situation moving forward. "I'm not so sure that in this particular case a metal detector was going to change anything that happened," he says.
However, Casciano says he?s looking into eliminating Friday night games or holding them in the daytime. The teenage shooting victim had surgery to remove a bullet from his leg and is in stable condition.
