Suffolk County Executive Steve Levy is pushing for a new law to require county contractors to prove their workers are in the country legally, and support for the bill is growing.
Congressman Peter King (R-Seaford) is throwing his support behind Levy?s bill, which is before the county Legislature. King says the measure is a step forward in the immigration issue. He adds that if other municipalities follow suit, a large part of the immigration debates would be solved.
The bill would create stiff penalties for violators, including monetary fines and termination of contracts for repeat offenders.
