Nassau County Executive Tom Suozzi's car crashed in Greenvale while on his way to a meeting Tuesday morning, and the circumstances of the collision have raised some eyebrows.
A county spokesperson says Suozzi was a passenger in an unmarked police car. According to the spokesperson, the vehicle was using its sirens and lights to go through a red light at the intersection of Glen Cove Road and Northern Boulevard when it crashed into another car. After about 10 minutes, Suozzi continued on to his meeting in Mineola. The executive says he was a little shaken up, but no injuries were reported.
The county executive's security detail determines when it is appropriate to use sirens to run red lights. The man hit by the county vehicle says he didn't see or hear the car coming. Nassau police failed to reveal a security reason for using the sirens Tuesday.
