Two major roadways have buckled in as many days due to the sweltering heat.

Sunrise Highway near exit 43 in Bay Shore buckled this afternoon. The heat caused a piece of concrete to lift about 8 inches up off the ground. It has since been fixed.

Last night, the Long Island Expressway buckled in Manorville.

Highway Maintenance Supervisor John McNeil says roads often buckle in the heat, but he says there's no way of predicting where it will happen.

High temperatures are also affecting air quality. Residents are advised to stay indoors, stay hydrated and take advantage of cooling stations.
