All right, this week we are showing off one of the many reasons why Beth Page is so great. We're talking about one place that you can head inside and cool down in the summer. But also enjoy when it's cool out news. Twelve's Caroline Flynn is at the rinks at Beth Page right now, learning more about hockey camp. Hey, Caroline. Hey, Erin, good morning. Yeah, we got an intensive going on behind us here for ice hockey. These kids have been out on the ice since six o'clock in the morning and I'm so fortunate to have stolen away. One of them. We got some girl power here. We've got Paige Wallace. She's 17 years old from Huntington. Very passionate about this sport. I mean, my question is, I know this is like predominantly a male sport. You're out here, you're having a great time. You're actually worried right now because I pulled you away. How did you first get involved in this? So when I was six years old, uh, I went to an Islander game for my birthday and I just like, kind of fell in love with the sport and I begged my parents to let me play and ever since they let me on the ice side never wanted to get off and we gotta give you some props. And congratulations because you're playing this in college. Yeah. I'm very excited. Uh, I can't believe they like which school? Tell me which school I'm going to Clarkson University. Amazing. Amazing. What an accomplishment. Again, it's predominantly male here. You're a girl out here. You, you're kicking butt. How does it feel? It feels great. Like I just, it feels like if I'm not playing hockey, like I, I'm like, anxious to like to get on and this is all because of how many brothers did you have? I couldn't believe this when you told me I have five older brothers. Wow. Ok. So they're responsible for this love and good for them and good for you. We're gonna let you get back to practicing. She's got the, we have coming up. She's not leaving. She is here all day and that's how much she loves it. And we're going to be here too for now though. Erin and Rich back to you guys, five older brothers, she is used to holding her own even when she's not on the Ice Caroline. Thanks so much. We'll check back in, in a little bit.

All right, this week we're showing off what makes Beth Page so great. Yesterday, we brought you to the field that hosts polo at the park every summer. And today we're going inside to the rinks news. So's Caroline Flynn is there now showing us everything. It has to offer a nice little cool down. Caroline. It certainly is. I was gonna say I'm freezing on the ice right now. I don't have my skates on because I'm not competing with anyone who is out here this morning. These kids are so talented. Some of them trained by Nadine with me who runs a skating school here at the rinks, Nadine. I mean, you guys, it's, it's full. Go ahead. Same as the school year, busy in the summer as well. Even though it's hot out. Oh, yeah, it's training time now is the best time to be in the ice rink. It's hot out. Cool in here. Fair enough. What do you guys have going on right now? We have a freestyle. This is like the elite. This is the best of our skaters once they have learned the basics and they want to be figure skaters. This is where you have to make. That is amazing. And we have sisters on the ice with us this morning. This is Sophia and Maria. They are 13 and 10. They told me from Mass People Park. Tell me just about their experience. I know you work very closely with them. Oh, yeah. Had them since they were, oh, my gosh. Like seven years from now. Yeah. Yeah, it's been great. You know, you got a very close bond with them. You work with them in the mornings, in the weekends you travel with them for competitions. It's great. Amazing. And I know, you know, this isn't a summer Olympic sport, but there's a lot of excitement around figure skating. Can you tell me a bit of what they're doing on the ice right now? Oh, yes. So once they're at the freestyle level they're usually training for, like I said, competitions or sometimes just testing and getting through those levels and working on accomplishing those goals. Perfect. Amazing. Well, this is so exciting to see again in the summer on the, I, they got so much going on here at the rings, including a camp that's going to begin in just a little bit. News. Twelve's Caroline Flynn is at the rinks at Beth Page right now as campers arrive for the day. Uh, yeah, a different kind of camp heading into the cold in the summer. I was gonna say Erin, this is a perfect way to cool off in the summer. I've got my jacket on and I am just a little bit cold, but for good reason, we've got some incredible budding figure skaters behind us here. They're working with their coach and over to my right. I have their wonderful mother. This is Nadia and I give you so much credit because this is a major commitment. Right. Yes, it is. It is a big commitment, waking up and being with them here, especially when you work full time. So it keeps me busy. It certainly does. I mean, this is a year round thing. You're here in the summer, but it doesn't stop. This is all year during the weekdays before school as well. Yes, before school during the weekdays and with the other activities. And, uh, it's a year round thing. Why do you do it? Because they are so passionate about it and that's what keeps me going and I'm so glad that they like it. So, and that's the most important thing. It really is so important when you're a kid to have something that you're passionate about, have an activity. I want to grab Sophia. Come on over, look at her skate over here. I should have said come skate over Sophia. I just wanted to ask you, I know mom was telling me she was not into skating. What got you into it. What do you love about it when you get on the ice? You just feel free. You feel lo I also love the competitions because you get to see new people from different areas, how they skate too and it's not only that you compete with them, you also get to know them as well. You can make other friends with other people as well. Meet them. What a beautiful thing. Thank you so much for sharing that. Go on back to your lesson. Newell's Caroline Flynn is there now showing us everything it has to offer. It's been a fun morning, Caroline, which it certainly has. And I'm gonna be honest with you, it got a little cold inside of the rink. So we decided to come out and talk with some of the campers as they're getting ready for some activities today and cool. I mean, warm up a little bit. Not cool off. We go inside for that. We have Josh and Ariel with me and they are really good friends in real life because they're neighbors. They're eight years old, but Ariel most importantly is three months older than Josh. Right. I got that. All right. Awesome. So, you guys, this is your second year camp? Do you guys play outside of the summer? Yeah. No. Yeah. What do you do? I thought you were in a competitive league. No, in the summer we don't really play competitive but in a year you do and this is like a great way for you guys to practice your skills. Cool. What do you love Ariel most about camp? Um, it's just fun and we do lots of fun drills and, yeah, that's it. Ok, Josh, you guys don't just go on the ice though, right? What other activities do you guys do? Basketball? Gaga, floor ball, a lot of stuff. And even I think I heard go in the pool, right? Not always. Not always though, because you love being on the ice. What is your guys' favorite thing about ice hockey? Because I'm gonna be, I tried this one time when I was your age and I only lasted one lesson. So what Ariel do you love? And then I'll ask you, Josh, scoring goals, scoring goals. That's a good one. What about you, Josh? Same thing, same thing. It's all about the goals. All right. Well, we're going to let you guys get on to the ice. We have so much more coming up throughout the rest of the morning from Beth Page for now though. Rich, I'm gonna send it back to you.
