Suffolk Water Authority is racing to fix a series of water main breaks across Suffolk County that they are attributing to severe cold.Officials say that recent frigid temperatures have caused the ground to shift, pushing and pulling pipes apart. In West Babylon, a water main break at the intersection of Ninth Street and Fourth Avenue buckled the road. Another break happened on Potter Boulevard in Bay Shore. Water authority workers went door to door to ask residents to fill buckets of water because they would soon shut the main water pipes to make repairs. Most residents said they were taking the incidents in stride. The water authority is also reminding people that this is the season when pipes are susceptible to freezing. They are urging people to read the Suffolk County publication ?Winter Safety Tips? to avoid problems.Related Information:Suffolk County Office of Emergency Management
