Suffolk police officers help deliver baby on shoulder of Long Island Expressway

Highway Patrol officers and an officer from the 5th Precinct responded to a report of a woman in labor on the side of the LIE after 2 a.m.

A group of Suffolk police officers helped deliver a baby on a shoulder of the Long Island Expressway early Sunday morning.
Highway Patrol officers and an officer from the 5th Precinct responded to a report of a woman in labor on the side of the LIE after 2 a.m.
Upon arrival, they found Amy Steinberg and her husband Ian on the shoulder near Exit 53.
Brentwood paramedics assisted Sgt. Justin Carey, Officer Kenneth Bunger, Officer Matthew Siesto and Officer Arnold Reyes as they delivered a baby girl just 30 minutes later.
Both the mother and the baby were then taken to the hospital in good condition.
