Six Suffolk County police officers and two Central Islip firefighters rescued two women from a house fire on Dietz Street Thursday morning.
According to Suffolk County police, two women, who were unable to escape the lower level of the home on their own, were rescued by the officers and firefighters.
The officers included Alisa Cipolla, Alec Parrotta, Brett Platt, Jonathan Morgan, Lillian Arlene Collins, Sergio Rivera and firefighters Steve Dellamar and Dennis Solares.
The women, who were rescued, are 78-year-old Grace Francis and 48-year-old Michelina Kirton.
The officers, firefighters and women were transported to local hospitals for treatment of smoke inhalation.
The chief of the Central Islip Fire Department said two of his members, who live nearby, raced inside and then dragged two people out of this house, putting themselves in danger to save others.
“They were actually close in proximity and when they heard that someone was trapped, they actually ran inside without gear, so they didn’t have self-breathing, self-contained breathing apparatus on them,” said Fire Chief Vinny Plotino.
The American Red Cross was on the scene, assisting family members.
“Right now, I’m mostly worried because my younger sister and my mother, both of them are in the hospital, and they had to put them under because they got the most smoke," said the homeowner, Emerson Kirton.
The home suffered a lot of smoke damage.
