Suffolk police: Man caught in current treaded water for 5 hours before rescue

Dan Ho, 63, alerted other boaters by using a broken fishing pole.

A Copiague man was saved from the waters off Cedar Beach after spending over five hours treading water.
Dan Ho was swimming early Monday at Cedar Beach when he was pulled out by a current.
Suffolk police said Ho found a broken fishing pole in the water, tied his shirt to it and waved the shirt in the air in an attempt wave down passing boats.
Ho was eventually spotted and saved by two boaters.
He was treated for hypothermia and taken to a hospital for treatment.
