Suffolk County police are seeking the public's help in solving the fatal July 2018 shooting of an East Patchogue teenager.
Emilio Sanchez Maldonado was about to become a senior at Bellport High School when he was killed outside his home. Police say the 17-year-old's lifeless body was found on his bicycle following what they called an ambush-style shooting.
Suffolk Detective Lt. Kevin Beyrer says it appeared that the victim left to meet with someone, but that person is still unknown.
News 12 spoke with the victim's father the day after he discovered the boy's body. He said through a translator at the time that he believed the MS-13 gang was responsible. Police say they're not ruling out anything at this point.
Beyrer says there was likely just one shooter, but it’s still unclear how many people in total were involved.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS. A $5,000 reward is being offered for any information that leads to an arrest.
