A 60-year-old woman is in critical condition after police say a minivan struck her Saturday morning in Freeport.

Detectives say the crash happened around 7:50 a.m. as she was trying to cross East Merrick Road. According to police, the minivan struck her while making a left turn.

The driver remained at the scene.
