From reporting damage to saving receipts, officials have advice for homeowners as the cleanup continues across Suffolk County following Sunday night’s flooding.
The rainstorm Sunday night brought almost 10 inches of rain in some parts and caused thousands of dollars worth of damage.
Suffolk County Comptroller John Kennedy, Jr. says damage to municipal properties and private properties could be in the tens of millions.
"Knowing what the costs are to rebuild, I wouldn't be surprised if we go to $60 to $75 million,” he said.
Suffolk County Executive Ed Romaine says homeowners need to document the damage and hopes Gov. Kathy Hochul will declare northern parts of Suffolk County a disaster area so those impacted by the flood are able to get more financial assistance.
"Keep all your receipts,” said Romaine. "Take photos, catalog things, make sure you get estimates of what it’s going to take to restore.”
