Suffolk Legislature adopts leash law bill

The Suffolk Legislature has adopted a bill to protect animals from abuse and neglect. According to the bill, no animal can be left tethered outside for more than two hours in any 12-hour period.

The Suffolk Legislature has adopted a bill to protect animals from abuse and neglect.
According to the bill, no animal can be left tethered outside for more than two hours in any 12-hour period.
Legislator Lou D'Amaro says the bill restricts pet owners from using an embedded or choke collar that can cut off oxygen supply to the animal.
The bill also limits the length and weight of an animal's chain.
Violators could face up to a $500 fine.
