Long Island motorists that text message while driving could soon be hit with a ticket.Suffolk legislators passed a bill Tuesday to ban texting while driving. County Executive Steve Levy now has 30 days to hold a public hearing on the issue before deciding whether to sign it into law or not.The bill was introduced by Leg. Jay Schneiderman, who said a friend was involved in an accident where texting was a factor. Schneiderman says studies show texting while driving can be more dangerous than talking on a cell phone while driving.The state of Washington and the city of Detroit are the only areas in the country to have a ban against texting while driving.
