News 12 Long Island has learned that Republicans have nominated Brookhaven Town Supervisor Ed Romaine as their choice to succeed three-term Democrat Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone.

Romaine has served as Brookhaven supervisor for more than a decade.

Romaine is also a former county legislator and county clerk.

Romaine is likely to face former businessman and former federal prosecutor Dave Calone -- who has the backing of the county Democratic party.
