A North Babylon man is accused of stealing thousands of dollars' worth of Costco rebate checks while working as a U.S. postal worker.
Gerome Fowler, 32, of North Babylon pleaded not guilty Tuesday in Suffolk County court on multiple charges, including grand larceny.
The Suffolk County District Attorney's Office says a Costco cashier tipped them off after witnessing the 32-year-old cashing in the rebate certificates multiple times at several different Costco locations in Suffolk.
Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney says Fower is charged with stealing dozens of certificates with values of around $7,000 in the period of about six months.
"We believe he is responsible for multiple thefts of this kind with the loss amount exceeding $70,000," Tierney says.
If convicted, he could face 28 months to seven years in jail.
Anyone who believes they are a victim and should have received a Costco rewards certificate recently and did not can reach out to their local Costco.
