A Deer Park man is facing charges for trafficking enough fentanyl to kill nearly every person on Long Island, according to the Suffolk district attorney.
News 12 has been told a suspicious package led the state drug enforcement task force and Suffolk police to Adriano Abreu Bonifacio.
Before it was delivered, inspectors were able to determine that there were narcotics inside.
The DA says the drugs were sent from California to Abreu Bonifacio’s home, but under a fake name.
An undercover officer went to deliver the package and he accepted it.
Inside the package were five kilograms of fentanyl. Officials say it is enough to kill more than 2.5 million people and nearly every resident in Nassau and Suffolk combined.
Abreu Bonifacio was indicted for operating as a major trafficker and criminal possession of the controlled substance.
