An Amityville man was formally charged Wednesday with attempted murder of a police officer.
News 12 is told it happened when officers spotted Jayvon Bell while he was walking in East Farmingdale.
The Suffolk District Attorney's Office says Bell was wanted for a prior robbery.
When officers tried to arrest him, the district attorney says he ran but was later found at a nearby home.
Police say the 20-year-old shot at one of the officers and missed.
The district attorney says one officer returned fire, hitting Bell.
He is due back in court next week and faces life in prison.
