Suffolk County issued an emergency order Friday in response to the migrant crisis.
The order issued by Suffolk Executive Steve Bellone says hotels, motels and shelters would need permission from the county to engage in a contract with other municipalities to house asylum seekers.
Bellone says the county is facing a shortage of temporary and permanent housing options as it works support its own homeless population.
The order comes as New York City struggles to cope with an influx of migrants and is seeking other municipalities to help.
