A Suffolk County corrections officer from Bohemia has been charged with third-degree grand larceny in an alleged double-dipping scheme.

Officials say Stephen Compitello, a veteran corrections officer, was collecting a paycheck from the county for hours he never worked, and was instead working as a security guard at a local school district.

Prosecutors say Compitello collected a salary for hours he didn't work for more than two and a half years.

Compitello pleaded not guilty in court this morning. News 12 has learned that he resigned last week after being suspended and demoted.

No one answered the door at Compitello's home today. His attorney, Thomas Spreer, says the married father of three comes from a family of law enforcement and has worked in the corrections department for 22 years.
