A Suffolk County contractor accused of scamming Superstorm Sandy victims was arrested earlier this month.
Police say Capstone Remodeling owner Lee Moser, of Smithtown, was arrested in Suffolk County about two weeks ago and pleaded not guilty.
Moser is accused of scamming victims out of thousands of dollars for unfinished work on their damaged homes. Suffolk and Nassau homeowners tell News 12 that Moser took their money but never paid the subcontractors.
Andrew Polizzi, of East Rockaway, told News 12 Long Island over the summer that he paid Moser and Capstone Remodeling $80,000 for renovations on his badly damaged home. Polizzi says Moser pocketed the money and that the work on his home was never finished. He hopes Moser will soon face charges in Nassau – where dozens of homeowners say they were also scammed.
A total of 13 complaints were filed against Capstone with Nassau's Consumer Affairs. A dozen were turned over to the Nassau District Attorney's Office.  A spokesman there told News 12 that the investigation is ongoing.
Moser's next court date in Suffolk is Nov. 13. His attorney declined to comment on the case.
