Downtown Patchogue, whose night life draws people from all across Long Island, is getting an extra police presence.
Newsday says an additional Suffolk County police officer will start patrolling Patchogue.
Two officers will now be watching Main Street and South Ocean Avenue, a very busy section where crowds often form.
Their role will be to keep a close eye on bar patrons and also panhandlers who sometimes congregate near that area.
