As a Roslyn High School security guard was arraigned on drug charges Thursday, many students say they are shocked over her arrest.
Police say two bags of cocaine dropped from Evelyn Garza?s pocket in the school hallway. According to authorities, both a student and teacher saw the bags fall out of Garza?s pocket. Police say Garza also had a third bag of cocaine in her pocket when she was arrested.
The school issued a statement on its Web site that said a staff member was dismissed following a drug arrest. Many students say they can?t believe Garza would be arrested for drug possession. Garza?s lawyer, Brian Griffin, says his client is well known in the community and this is not like her.
Griffin adds, ?From everyone we?ve talked to, these allegations come as a complete surprise and are completely out of character. The public should understand these are merely allegations and we look forward to having our time in court and getting to the bottom of what happened.?
Garza was arraigned on a charge of possession of a controlled substance.
